Description

The HMS Belfast was a light cruiser of the Royal Navy during World War II. She was commissioned on 5 August 1939. At the end of November of the same year she was released from service for three years as a result of damage by a German mine. Starting in 1942 she escorted Arctic convoys. On 26 December 1943 she and the cruisers HMS Norfolk and HMS Sheffield repelled the attacks of the German battleship Scharnhorst, which attempted to make her way into an Allied convoy. HMS Belfast also took part in the attack on the German battleship Tirpitz. Starting in June 1944 she underwent a general renovation. In August 1945 she sailed into the port of Sydney. From 1945 to 1962 the Belfast served in the Far East with brief interruptions for repairs and also took part in the Korean War. In 1966 she was earmarked for a residential ship. In 1971 she was threatened with scrapping. Thanks to the active intervention of the British public this did not happen, however. She was ultimately anchored on the Thames and became a museum exhibition.

In collaboration with IWM (Imperial War Museums) the COBI construction block Belfast 4821 model was designed on a scale of 1:300 and faithfully captures the details of its historical inspiration. The miniature battleship is 64 cm / 25.2" long and 19.5 cm / 7.7" tall. It has many moving components such as on-board guns, rotating artillery towers, rudders and propellers. The model is covered with high-quality prints imitating the equipment and camouflage. Prints don't scratch or smear even during intense play. The set includes a black display pad and a white plate with the model name and scale printed on it. The IWM logo (Imperial War Museums) is also on the plaque. The product will make a perfect gift for all lovers of history, naval engineering and nautical science. It will also look great on a desk, bookcase or on a shelf with other collectibles.
