Description

Polish torpedo submarine type Orzel. He was launched on January 15, 1938 in the Dutch shipyard De Schelde in Vlissingen. The unit had a total length of 84 m and a displacement of 1473 tons and could reach a depth of 100 meters. On February 2, 1939, the ship began serving in the Polish Navy. ORP “Orzel” was lost for unexplained reasons along with the entire crew during a voyage in the North Sea in June 1940. The 1: 100 scale model created by COBI consists of 1240 elements and is 84 cm long. It was designed in such a way as to reproduce its prototype as closely as possible. The set includes an aesthetic, black display stand with a plate on which the name of the ship is printed. Due to its size and complexity, the model is recommended for veteran collectors and experienced block fans.

Among the most modern submarines in the Allied fleets at the outbreak of World War II, two Polish Orzeł class vessels (four were intended), ORP Orzeł (Eagle) and ORP Sęp (Vulture), were built in Dutch shipyards for the Navy in the 1930s. With an entirely welded hull, all controls hydraulically operated and a speed of 19.5 knots, the craft was intended to fulfil the Polish requirements for a multi-purpose vessel, to be deployed in the shallow Baltic as well as the high seas. Soon after the outbreak of war, the two submarines were ordered to British ports and Orzel sunk two german troop transports in April 1940. However, in what remains a mystery to this day, ORP Orzeł was lost with all hands whilst on patrol in the North Sea. As well as torpedo tubes, Orzeł was armed with a 4″ deck gun.
